Tuesday, February 7 was a major surprise for an Irish fisherman: he discovered that he had caught an electric blue lobster while hauling up his nets. An extremely rare catch since only one specimen out of two million would be of this color.
Stuart Brown is a 28-year-old Irish fisherman from Bangor, a town in County Down, Northern Ireland. On February 7, the young man had the surprise of his life when he hauled up his nets. The reason ? He realized he had caught an electric blue lobster.

“There was a one in two million chance of catching him”
This extremely rare catch took place near the Black Head lighthouse, a very popular spot for local anglers. That day, Stuart Brown expected to find “mere lobsters” in his fishing trap. What was the surprise of the latter when he discovered an entirely blue lobster instead.

“There are lobsters that have a different color. they’re a little browner or redder, just a little different, but not to the extreme,” he told our BBC colleagues.
Before adding: “I looked on Google to see how rare it was, and there was a one in two million chance of catching it”.

Armed with his smartphone, the Briton hastened to take a picture of the crustacean before releasing it into the water. Since then, the animal has been one of the “weird and wonderful” things he has seen at sea.
According to scientists, this type of lobster has a rare genetic anomaly that gives it this incredible blue color.
