A close-knit family travels across America in an old school bus

Meet the Lawson family from Florida (USA). Steve and Michelle have seven little ones ranging in age from 9 months to 16 years old and all of the school aged little ones are home schooled. It makes no sense to be tied down to one place, as the family is traveling the country in a motorhome!

Steve and Michelle have created their new cozy and mobile home themselves. They had always wanted to travel, and when they finally got the chance, they bought an old school bus for $14,000 and repurposed it for $17,000.

It took about six months to turn the bus into a house. The Lawsons now travel across the United States and have previously visited Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin.

Steve and Michelle have seven little ones – Caleb (16), Jacob (13), Joshua (10), Matthew (6), Liam (5), Charlotte (2) and Owen (9 months).

The living area is equipped in such a way that there is enough space for everyone. And the little ones also feel completely normal.

The Lawsons have their own photography business, Michelle Lawson Photography. The income is sufficient for the life they lead.

In such stories, the question always arises: what about the little ones who have to go to school? Steve and Michelle are convinced that home schooling is a much more correct and useful thing, and life teaches better than any school.

According to them, the best way to learn is to do something. And when there are many little ones in the family, the older ones help the younger ones, and everything happens naturally.

Now the Lawsons are back in their native Fort Lauderdale (came to celebrate the holidays), but recently they visited a dozen states and had a lot of impressions.

“It’s a simple life. We wake up in the morning and have adventures, or just relax. We like to live without a predetermined plan,” they say.

“Living on the bus is such a fun thing. It’s filled with a spirit of community and togetherness, as well as a spirit of adventure, and we love that. To see the world, to learn, to grow, to explore, to reflect, to learn new things – all of this really gives us joy.

And the most important – that we are all together. We live a simple life. Connected as one. We have plenty of time to communicate with each other, just sit, talk and live.
