Owner couldn’t find his dog Harley, but then saw him desperately trying to save the fawn

When Ralph Dorn couldn’t find his dog Harley one evening in late June, he went out to look at the lake in his backyard. He saw Harley in the water, looking closer he saw his dog trying to help the little fawn to land.

“I couldn’t find Harley until I decided to check the lake in the evening,” he said. “He was in the middle of the lake, bringing the little fawn back to shore,” Mr Dorn said on Facebook. “I don’t know how the beast got there, but Harley certainly didn’t wonder if he was acting.”

Mr Dorn and his wife Patricia documented their dog’s heroic efforts and uploaded them to Facebook, where the story quickly went viral.

The fawn was alone in the middle of the lake, its mother not in sight.

However, Harley expertly guided the fawn to shore.

Harley tried to stay close to the fawn as they approached the shore.
He examined the fawn to make sure it was healthy. Both arrived safe and sound on dry land.

Even when the beast got up, he was still worried and continued to poke him with his nose. He took his time to sniff the beast.
Dorn said the fawn mother returned as soon as she saw her calf on dry land.

The next morning, Harley encountered the fawn again.

“The little one stopped crying as soon as he saw Harley, his tail waggled, they smelled each other, and Harley peacefully walked home with me.”

Dorn said the mother soon returned and they hadn’t seen the fawn or its mother since. Dorn explained Harley’s behavior, saying he’s always been kind and is a registered therapy dog. “Even as a puppy we could see he had such a kind heart,” Mr Dorn added. “He was always like that with children and animals.

“He adores them all.”
