Karl Lagerfeld’s Unconventional Collection is Now on Auction: 😳You Won’t Guess What the Designer Collected!

You’d never guess what the famous German designer Karl Lagerfeld collected during his lifetime. An unusual collection of his items has recently gone up for auction. Well, every creator has their quirks.

It has been revealed that the Sotheby’s auction house now owns Lagerfeld’s collection of portable multimedia file players—iPods—used by the designer. Not only the sheer number of players is fascinating, but also how he used them. Lagerfeld owned more than 300 iPods, some of which were even personalized. Why not? He could afford it.

Like a true collector, he dedicated each device to a specific genre, artist, or even mood. “I use iPods like tapes. When I’m done with one, I move on to the next,” he once explained.

Lagerfeld’s love for possessions shouldn’t come as a surprise, given that he also owned over 300,000 books, many of which were stacked horizontally because he found it aesthetically pleasing.

The iPods in Lagerfeld’s collection were divided into lots, each typically including four players priced between 50 and 120 euros. It’s a small price to pay to own a piece of the legacy of one of the most influential designers of the 20th and early 21st centuries. The collection includes models from the Classic to the Nano.
