Wildfires have been raging in California for the second week, destroying entire neighborhoods and cities. The Kardashian-Jenner family resides in Calabasas, Los Angeles County, where the fire has not yet reached. Kim Kardashian shared apocalyptic footage of the fires, which have become the largest in the state’s history.
“I love Los Angeles. My heart breaks for my city. I continue to pray for all the victims and am so grateful to those who are tirelessly fighting to protect and save this city,” Kardashian said.
Kim faced criticism after making strong statements about the devastation. She expressed outrage that prisoners, who voluntarily assist firefighters in battling the blazes at the risk of their own lives, are paid only $1 per hour. This meager amount has not changed since 1984. The star of the reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians supported the initiative of state legislator Isaac Bryan to raise the pay for inmate firefighters to $5, which was rejected just before the tragedy began.
Actor Danny Trejo criticized celebrities who use the disaster to promote their own agendas. He stated that now is not the time for Hollywood elites to use the crisis as a platform for their initiatives. According to Danny, the focus should be on helping the victims.
Trejo was outraged that the founder of SKIMS was making the situation political. The Machete actor served a total of 11 years in prison and worked as a firefighter while incarcerated. He explained that inmates who voluntarily assist firefighters receive sentence reductions. Easing the sentence is the main incentive for volunteer inmates.
Trejo also addressed potential arsonists with a warning: “If anyone is responsible for one of these monstrous fires, be sure that life behind bars won’t be easy for you. You’ll be despised and hated because there’s no benefit in this crime—only destruction,” he said.
Kim Kardashian also shared a photo with her daughter Chicago, who is celebrating her birthday. She mentioned how the girl is starting to look more like her as she grows: “My twin baby Chi is turning 7 today! You’re the sweetest, most loving Hello Kitty, a wonderful, sweet girl who loves her friends and family so much! We all love you so much! Happy birthday, my Chi!” the American Horror Story star wrote to her birthday girl.
