My granddaughter kicked me out of the house because at 79, I met a man and wanted to marry him. But I decided to teach her a lesson for such disrespect.
My life with my granddaughter Ashley has been long and difficult. After the death of her parents, I sold my house to pay for her college education. All these years, I lived for her, putting her interests above my own, even forgetting about my own happiness.
But one day, fate brought me Harold. This kind, sweet man entered my life like a ray of light. He was attentive, caring, and every moment with him reminded me that happiness is possible at any age.
When he proposed, I was on cloud nine. We were planning the wedding, and I dreamed of introducing Harold to my granddaughter so she could see what a wonderful person he was.
However, things didn’t go as I expected. When Ashley found out about the wedding, her reaction shocked me. She told me I was “too old” for a wedding dress! Her words hurt deeply, but the real blow came when she flatly declared that she would not tolerate Harold in our home. In a fit of rage, she packed my things and kicked me out. I was stunned. After all the sacrifices I had made for her, she simply kicked me out.
But instead of breaking down, I decided to teach my granddaughter a lesson. Let her feel how harsh reality can be. Here’s what I did:
Harold and I got married — a small but beautiful ceremony. We organized a stunning photoshoot that captured our joy. But I didn’t stop there. Knowing how much Ashley loves exhibitions and art, I came up with something special.
We rented an art gallery and filled it with our wedding photos. These pictures were full of happiness, sincere love, and vitality.
We invited many guests to the exhibition, including journalists, friends, and of course, Ashley. I wanted her to see that my life hadn’t ended and that I had the right to be happy.
When Ashley entered the hall and saw us with Harold in the photos — laughing, dancing, hugging — she blushed with embarrassment.
She couldn’t hide her discomfort. The guests admired the photos, complimenting us, and I felt that this was my triumph. Ashley didn’t say a word. She simply turned around and left the room.
I don’t know if this exhibition changed her attitude toward me, but I hope she understood that there is always room for happiness in life. And every person, regardless of age, deserves love and respect.
