Demi Moore won the award for her role as Elizabeth Sparkle in the horror film Substance.

“This is the first time I’ve won something as an actress. I’m humbled and very grateful,” the star said in her speech.

The actress struggled to hold back her emotions, her voice trembling. She recalled the insults she endured in Hollywood, including one director early in her career who humiliated her by calling her a “popcorn actress.”

Moore has never forgotten those words and watched as her career fluctuated—rising and then fading—until she came across an “absolutely insane script” for Substance.

“The universe told me my career isn’t over yet!” she said, expressing gratitude to “the people who believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself.”
