In late winter of 2002, Jake and Erin Herrin welcomed twin daughters, Kendra and Malia. The news that the babies were conjoined twins sparked mixed reactions. While the parents were overjoyed to have their daughters, they also felt anxious about what the future would hold for them.
After four years of living as conjoined twins, the parents decided to have Kendra and Malia undergo surgery to be separated, hoping to give them the opportunity to live independently. Each twin had two legs, allowing them to manage their own movements, and they were able to walk and run without issues as they adapted to their new lives.

In 2006, the twins underwent the separation surgery, a complicated procedure involving 31 doctors over more than a day. Once the media caught wind of the surgery, Kendra and Malia became widely known.
By the time they were fourteen, the twins had been living separately. Adjusting to their new lives was a process, but gradually they thrived. In addition to attending school, the girls occasionally received home tutoring. Both girls developed their artistic talents, enjoying drawing and becoming quite skilled at it. Through their resilience, Kendra and Malia set a positive example, showing their peers that there are no impossible situations. They became beloved figures at school, admired by their classmates as heroes.

Now, at eighteen years old, the twins continue to lead full lives. They have become proficient drivers, having completed driving school, and they share interesting stories from their lives on their social media accounts and YouTube channel, where they have tens of thousands of followers.

Their mother, Kelly, who also has conjoined twin daughters named Carter and Kelly, has reached out to the Herrin sisters for advice and support. The Herrin sisters offer guidance based on their own experiences, assisting Kelly and Carter in any way they can. Although their parents have not yet made a decision, Kelly and Carter are also considering the possibility of separation in the future.
