It turns out that Ross was never supposed to say “Rachel” at the altar. In an interview shared by a fan on Instagram, a writer revealed that this iconic moment wasn’t originally planned. The writer explained, “We never knew how the storyline would end. We struggled with it and couldn’t decide. Then, during one taping, David Schwimmer walked in, and instead of saying, ‘I have the cab waiting downstairs, Emily,’ he said, ‘I have the cab waiting, Rachel.’”
Schwimmer immediately apologized, saying, “Sorry, let me start again.” The writer continued, “Then he ran out, and we all thought, ‘That’s how it should happen.’” And that’s how one of the most memorable scenes in TV history came to be.
