At 62, Jim Carrey has always been a highly sought-after actor. He earned $20 million for his role in the 1996 film The Cable Guy. Carrey became famous for hits like The Truman Show, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Bruce Almighty, but his career started to decline in the late 2000s. Despite once having a fortune estimated at $300 million, he now finds himself struggling financially, prompting his return to the screen.
“I came back into this universe because I wanted to play the evil genius in Sonic, but honestly… I bought a lot of things, and I need money, to be honest,” he joked on the red carpet at the London premiere of Sonic the Hedgehog.
However, Carrey quickly added that his passion for cinema is still alive.
“At the same time, there was soul in this, and that’s why I did it in the first place. There was something beautiful about this film,” he said. “I hope it brings families together and helps cure a few illnesses,” he joked in his signature style.
Despite his humor, the Hollywood comedian is indeed concerned about his finances. He is still awaiting a large sum from the sale of his Los Angeles mansion, which, according to Realtor, remains on the market after several price reductions. Initially listed in February 2023 for a hefty $28.9 million, the five-bedroom, nine-bathroom estate in Brentwood has since been reduced to $19 million.
“This place was a sanctuary for me for three decades, but now I don’t spend as much time there and want someone else to enjoy it the way I did,” Carrey said about selling his home in an interview.
