Fred Parris wrote the iconic song “In the Still of the Night,” which his group, The Five Satins, recorded. When it was first released, it was a moderate hit, but over time, it gained widespread recognition and is now considered one of the greatest doo-wop songs ever. The song has been covered by numerous artists, including Debbie Gibson and Boyz II Men, and has appeared in several films.

Parris composed this timeless tune in 1955 in the basement of a local church. A live clip of the performance can be seen in the video below. After being featured on the 1987 Dirty Dancing album, the song’s popularity soared even further. In 2010, Rolling Stone magazine ranked it number 90 on their list of the Top 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
