The Hollywood star, who grew up in Texas and spent most of her adult life in California, shocked the public when she announced that her American chapter was now behind her. Eva Longoria shared that her life in the U.S. had drastically changed, especially since the pandemic. “This is where I spent my entire adult life. But even before the pandemic, everything was changing. The atmosphere was different. And then COVID happened, and it pushed everything to the edge. Whether it’s homelessness or taxes, I don’t want to complain about California, but it just feels like this chapter of my life is over,” Longoria said.
The actress, who has Mexican roots, is married to Mexican producer José Bastón, and they have a six-year-old son, Santiago. The family now divides its time between homes in Mexico and Spain. Last year, Longoria presented the CNN miniseries *Searching for Mexico*, and this year, she’s working on a new project, *Searching for Spain*.
“Los Angeles has changed a lot. I’m lucky I can escape and go somewhere else. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’ll get stuck in this dystopian country, and I worry and feel sad for them,” she said, referencing her role in *Desperate Housewives*.
Eva explained that she travels frequently to South America and other European countries for work but rarely goes to Los Angeles these days. She also discussed her upcoming 50th birthday, expressing that while she embraces her age, she does everything possible to maintain her youth. “For me, age is just a number, but I’m excited… I refuse to believe that my best success is behind me. I do cold therapy, I have red light therapy, I lift weights, meditate, journal… I wake up with the sun, I ground myself. I have an Oura ring to track my deep sleep. I take magnesium and other supplements, I do everything. Not because I don’t want to age, but because I want to age beautifully.”
Longoria, who has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, is not the only celebrity who has chosen to leave the U.S. for life abroad. 40-year-old actress America Ferrera moved to the UK in search of “better opportunities” for her children. 54-year-old Minnie Driver returned to London after living in Los Angeles for 30 years.
*Game of Thrones* star Sophie Turner also moved abroad after her split from Joe Jonas. She explained that she felt she needed to “get the hell out of America” due to gun violence and the overturning of *Roe v. Wade*. Johnny Depp now spends much of his time in Europe, with London also serving as his base. Other stars considering relocation include Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes, Hugh Jackman, Renée Zellweger, and more.
