The Duchess was “reduced to tears” after her new jam was mocked for being overpriced and lacking anything special.
Meghan Markle is disheartened by the reception of her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, which was launched in March. The Duchess of Sussex teased her fans with vague details about her new business venture. Initially, there was significant excitement among her followers, but it quickly faded after the brand’s first product, a strawberry jam, was released. According to a royal expert, Meghan’s jam was “widely ridiculed,” which led her to tears. This is another disappointment for Meghan, who was recently snubbed by Taylor Swift.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Meghan’s brand, inspired by her life in Montecito, would offer “tableware, drinks including decanters, kitchen linens, and edible treats such as jellies, jams, marmalades, and spreads.” The royal expert noted that the Duchess “cried when the brand launched, and her new jam was widely mocked for being expensive and unremarkable.” In March, she sent 50 jars of jam to select individuals, including close friends and influencers. Designer Tracy Robbins shared photos of a personalized basket sent by Meghan, which included a jar of strawberry jam in a basket filled with lemons.
“She has come to believe that everything she does will be unfairly criticized. Like her husband, she feels that people are unjustly picking on her—she cannot understand why people do not admire her work,” continues Quinn. “She is especially sensitive to any criticism of her luxurious lifestyle in the U.S.—from her perspective, it is something to be admired, not criticized.”
