Dogs are loyal creatures. They are loyal and affectionate until the end. Even when a dog’s master has to be away for a while, like a deployed soldier, he will patiently await his return.
When a loved one is deployed overseas in the military, it’s not an easy situation for anyone. Many moments are missed – from special celebrations to simple daily interactions. But in addition to being difficult for “humans”, if there is a dog at home, he surely misses his master too!
Perhaps the thing that makes it all better is the serviceman’s homecoming. These meetings are usually so moving that many of them are recorded and broadcast on the Internet. One category that melts our hearts is military reunions with their four-legged friends.
The soldier in the video below has just returned after eight months of military training. She has reconnected with her family, but there is one very special friend she has yet to see: her dog!
Janna Berger missed her dog Murphy terribly when she was away during her training. Fortunately, he was able to stay with his parents for several months.
“I thought of Murphy every day. Being away from him was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do”.
The feelings were quite mutual for the dog, who also missed his master. After Berger left, she learned that Murphy waited outside her bedroom door every day (probably hoping Berger would come back).
The day finally arrived for Berger and Murphy’s reunions.
In uniform, Berger stands outside his family’s home as the camera rolls in the background. She calls Murphy and he runs out, but his reaction isn’t what one would expect.
He approaches his mother, but quickly stops and runs hesitantly in the other direction. It’s as if he didn’t recognize her!
Berger and his dad call Murphy’s name hoping he’ll come back and they can try again.
The dog returns and begins to approach his mistress, but as soon as she takes off her hat (so he can better recognize her) he begins to bark, looking nervous and confused.
Then the best thing happens…
Murphy slowly approaches Berger as she reassures him, saying “It’s me!”. Finally, he reaches her knees and she can hug him. He sniffles, looks at her intently, feels her embrace – and it’s almost like a light bulb goes off in his head…my mom is home!
Puppy Murphy goes crazy realizing his owner is back and his reaction is amazing.
The dog jumps wildly at Berger as if unable to control his excitement. It’s the cutest thing in the world! We can say that she is equally delighted to join her animal, whom she loves with all her heart.
“I had no idea Murphy would react the way he did! When he didn’t recognize me at first, I was heartbroken. The happiest moment of my life was when he finally realized it was me,” Berger said.
Now that her training is complete, Berger plans to share a new home with her four-legged friend, Murphy (whom she’s owned for over three years).
It’s no wonder we love military homecoming videos so much. Even if it’s not a family member, you can feel the flood of emotions flowing through the screen, and quite often you need to have tissues handy.
